In addition to Bethesda Physiocare, Dr. Jan Dommerholt has founded Myopain Seminars together with Dr. Robert Gerwin. Myopain Seminars is the premier post-graduate continuing education company in the United States, with a focus on myofascial pain syndrome, manual trigger point therapy, and trigger point dry needling/injections.
Myopain Seminars features two major programs:
The Janet G. Travell, MD Seminar SeriesSM
The Travell Series includes hands-on continuing education workshops designed for licensed healthcare practitioners, who are allowed to use dry needling in their practice and jurisdiction, including physicians and physician assistants, dentists, physical therapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists, nurses, and nurse practitioners.
All courses will include intramuscular manual therapy (also called dry needling). In close cooperation with the American Physical Therapy Association, we are now using the term “intramuscular manual therapy” instead of dry needling, when referring to physical therapy practice, as this reflects more accurately how physical therapists are trained to use trigger point therapy. We recommend the term “dry needling” for physician practice and the term “trigger point acupuncture” for acupuncture practice.
The Myopain Seminars Massage Therapy Program
This program is designed for massage therapists, physical therapy assistants, body workers and neuromuscular therapists and is scheduled to start in April 2010. For information, please email
This Myopain Seminars website will feature detailed course information soon.
Myopain Seminars promotes the conferences and membership of International Myopain Society, National Association of Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists, as well as several other high-quality conferences.
